The wait for freedom from colonial hands

Was long indeed; it just remained a hope.

The Master held his grip in many lands.
His mighty empire stretched across the globe.

But World War Two became the watershed;

For us, in peace, not war, was freedom gained;

While others had to fight with much blood bled,

Against their foreign lords whose rule remained.

We’re free! What lies beyond for me and you? Suppression gone, a better life ahead?
It will depend on leaders good and true,
To chart the way to put us in good stead.

May all of us be blessed by God above;

Unite we must, with mutual trust and love!
